More finds here than I thought I had!

I have been waiting for a particular Lions Club op shed to re-open as it has been closed since Christmas. My Sister-in-law told me it had HEAPS of stock this time last year on it's first day back. Expectations were high. My sister and I got up early and got to the shed on opening (which was amazing since it was rush hour traffic and took a ridiculous amount of time to get there). I had the squids with me so I had the pram. I tried to keep it out of the way of the bargain hunters but I got so many dirty looks anyway (sad face). Made me wish I wasn't a nice person because then I could just bowl them over! I must say though that before I was a mum prams used to frustrate me - lol. Thrifters had jumped on all the best stuff by the time I had navigated the first aisle. Isn't it frustrating when you see really cool stuff out of the door! It was fun anyway and at least most of my money stayed in my pocket! Here is what I bought.

Excuse this pic, I forgot I had bought this so I have only just taken a pic and needed a flash. I said in another post 'what is it with me and chairs' well I am also wondering 'what is it with me and foot stools'. I now have a pouffe, this stool and another that I picked up late last year that I have not posted here yet. This was $6.

The top plate is a Johnson Bros and the bottom Royal Staffordshire, pretty don't you think? Only a dollar or so each. Not sure what is going on my my pics turning themselves sideways!

Loving these two finds. Sheffield Pearlcraft bread knife and glass jug for $5 all up.

I think the jug deserves a photo on it's own. Love the pattern.

I found these lids for my Pyrex for $1 each.

$2 for this bright Agee Pyrex.

Westminster Australia $1 .

Other finds this week from the Salvos (a bit over priced).

Alfred Meakin bowl. Gorgeous but more than I should have paid (there was just something about it that made me do it).

I have said in the past that I am not a fan of milk glass but I really like this shape ($2).

This looks like Pyrex but is not marked on the bottom. Has anyone seen this pattern before?

The week that was:

For the last week and a half I have listed on eBay which I haven't done for a while. I did quite well on a couple of things so my Melbourne shopping trip goal is getting closer. I won't be getting any op shopping done in Melbourne which is a pity but is probably for the best! Just waiting on confirmation of dates now, getting excited...

Thrifty finds and window shopping

I really have to get back to garage sales because I am having NO luck at the oppies. Ahh, it's been slim pickings this week I can tell you! I did see a fantastic retro side board in mint condition for $65. I am kicking myself now that I didn't grab it and I am sure by the time I go to the op shop later this week it will be gone (oppie is about a 30 minutes drive).  The one that got away.

I did find these Bendigo Pottery mugs for 50c each. There were six but two of them have some crazing that has gone dark. These have crazing but they are not too bad. Linking in with Flea Market Finds.

I found this night gown for $5, I can't help myself with vintage clothes if they are cheap.

It's a gorgeous colour don't you think.

Next is this little vintage box of title letters for the old movie cameras. I remember Dad had a Super 8 movie camera when I was growing up. I wrote and directed my first film using that camera. My siblings and I then went onto the big chunky VHS camera and made many short films and documentaries. A full length feature my brother, sister and I wrote, directed and starred in  was called 'Nightmare on New Street' (we lived on New St). A thriller, come mild horror that starred a meat cleaver hanging from a broom stick with fishing wire. We used a hair dryer to flick pages of books to make it look like a ghost was reading it - it was a classic! At one stage we needed a voice over for one of my little sister's scenes, we were in a bind as she had gone to  bed. As my brothers voice hadn't broken yet we used his scream, worked perfectly.  I hope we can find the movie one day and it's still watchable, it was a bit of a crack up and even had a gag real to the song Dizzy byVic Reeves with the Wonder Stuff. Ahh, thems were the days.

Below are some pics from a swap meet on the weekend. Unfortunately I got there late and they were packing up as I was looking. Also about 60% of what was being sold was car parts. Still I found a few interesting things to gawk at.

Like this gorgeous girl, I can just picture her in her heyday. Beautiful...

Vintage radios are always good.

The owners of this day bed tried really hard to sell it to me so that they wouldn't have to cart it home again.

While the porter on the left was beaming at me and wanting his picture taken with my new fang dangled camera, the one on the right was not so impressed but has to put up with people like me if he wants his tip.

Here the swap meet is, partly packed up already at 11:00am. Well I did have a late night.

The reason I was up so late the night before (apart from Little Miss keeping me up all night) was a catch up with school mates at one my friends new rental. It is huge! It was built by one of the well-to-do business families in the district (I am thinking 1950's but not sure). It still has most of the original features and around every corner was something to ohh and ahh at. Here is a small selection below.

Ok so the pics are not the best but terrazzo, wall paper and original appliances make for a retro cool house.

The week that was:

Spent a relaxing day celebrating my sisters 30th birthday today. That is her jumping off the jetty at Port Elliott. Managed to not get burnt, had a bit of a swim and even managed to fit in a quick thrift shop (but as I said, poor pickings this week). We were supposed to go out for dinner tonight but she changed her mind and stayed down at the beach, can't say I blame her. Wish I was still down there too!

More chairs and other finds.

What is it with me and chairs at the moment? Even though I  recently bought this chair, I couldn't help myself when I saw this one...

One armed (how it is designed), very funky hey! I think I will re-varnish the arm and legs. The fabric is in good condition but needs a clean, there are a couple of fluffy areas of fabric that I will have to do something with but overall it's great. If I can't find a spot for this chair, I may have to sell it (but that would be a shame). Oh yeah, I nearly forgot to say that it is REALLY comfy!

I also recently bought  two wooden folding chairs, not sure if I will keep them as is or paint them. $5 each! The old lady I got them from was holding up her garage sale shelving with them. I asked if they were for sale and she said if I came back Monday I could pick them up. When I got there Monday she couldn't remember me...hmm, not good but luckily her memory clicked back in and she said yes, she had put them aside for me. :)

I picked us these yellow and white folding chairs in hope that one day I will be able to get the old caravan out of Dads shed. I have some fond memories of that caravan from when I was a kid and would love to give it a new life and new memories. These chairs  would be cute with it I think! $3 each!

This dish below is from an op shop near my work. I sometimes go for a walk at lunch and as turns out I can walk to this oppie and back within half an hour. Nice!

I love Depression glass (not sure if this is Depression or not as I have not seen this pattern before- will have to do some Googling). I used pink glass for Little Miss' birthday party. I actually had some pieces that I forgot to bring out so maybe will have to do the same this year so they get some use. I love green Depression glass also but as it is so popular it is difficult to find (therefore my collection is mostly pink).

I got a kitchen magazine for $1 and also picked up this little cutie for the same amount. I am a sucker for mixing bowls.

I had an idea that I would do a quick collage of my week, every week. I seem to only get to blog once a week at this stage so I though this might be a nice idea. So here is 'The week that was'...

Beach with Mr M and the pool with Nana and Auntie Gemmie. Fun! Poor Little Miss covered head to toe at the beach due to her fair skin! Mum 1, sun 0.

Enjoy the week ahead!

Sherry :)

PS I am a little bleary eyed so will double check this post in the am. Please ignore any mistakes, incorrect grammar or just anything that doesn't make sense!

My five bucka chair & extension pics

I think this is the longest time that I have had in between posts ever. I have read about other bloggers who have lost their 'blogging mojo' and this is what happened to me. Well... that and just getting busy.

I started a health kick on Monday and had two horrible days of sugar withdrawal. I am a big sweet tooth so it has been a bit of a challenge. So that's my excuse.

But now...I feel good, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, I knew that I would now, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, I feel slightly hungry, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah but I'm getting skinny nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, so good, so good I got veges! Hee Hee, sorry. Just don't wave any carbs under my nose - I may attack without warning.

Not a lot of thrifting going on, but my sister and I did pass a garage sale a week or so ago at around 12:00pm (too late for the best stuff but you never know hey). I picked up this lovely chair that I call my 'five bucka chair' cause of course it cost just $5! Best bit about having an ugly shaggin wagon (station wagon) is that I can chuck lots in the back of it. I still had the pram and the kids bikes in there from earlier but the chair still fit (I knew it would...it HAD to).

Linking up with Club Goodwill No19 (Charm Bracelet Diva) for first time.

Not sure if I should do it up or not, it seems to have  a lot of character like this.

I had no idea what this was (below) when I saw it. Have a guess.

These scales are West German and designed to hang from the wall. $3

This slide projector was $5 and as my Dad used to take a lot of pictures and have them put onto slides I thought this would be an easy way to view them. I know my late father has one of those more modern projectors in the shed that you can hit the button to see one slide after the other (instead of putting one in, taking it out, putting another one in) but hey, this one is cuter!

House update: Hopefully the builders will be handing over next week. There are a few little things here and there that need to be fixed  (oh yeah and big things - a hot water service and waste connection) but nearly all done. We are deciding on paint colours and are actually painting eves this weekend  while the scaffolds are still up (builders are happy with that).

Looking from the hallway into the living area out to the deck.

Looking from just inside the sliding doors (deck area) to the kitchen near the door on the right and the dining area on the left. You can see down the hall way.

Kitchen to the right under the window.

Looking from the kitchen to our existing house.

Our new inground pool, likely to have mozzies soon - oww, stingy.

Night, night!

Cool stuff in Strath!

On Saturday Mr M thought that it was a good day to go for a drive to Strathalbyn. It is about 25 minutes from us and has LOTS of antique and collectible shops. Every August the town holds 'Strathalbyn Collectors, Hobbies and Antiques Fair'. This year Tim Wonnacott  from Bargain Hunt is making an appearance. I have been seeing his mug on the back of  public transport lately. You know the guy who matches his glasses to his bow tie, seems to really like pink and has teeth only a mother could love? Might even try and go this year as we have never been before. Anyway,  there is one shop in Strath that I LOVE, there is soooo much to look at. We had a squiz and I took some pics, then walked up High Street to check out some others shops. Mr M ended up waiting outside with the kids because Master M decided it was very boring and we didn't really trust him not to break anything. I didn't spend long in the shops because they were waiting for me but also because when you normally go to garage sales the prices in antiques shops seem way over the top. One place wanted $30 for a Pyrex mixing bowl that wasn't even in the best condition. I just get a bit frustrated with this as I am a bargain hunter.

These pics are from the cool place called 'Antique Bazaar of Strathalbyn'.

Had to hold myself  back from these groovy green canisters. Ahh.

Seems just like yesterday...

Lots of good stuff going on here.

So cute cupboard and of course scales (one of my favourite things).

I took this pic for the gorgeous 'bathing beauty' bottom right. Isn't she just adorable.

Loads of green Depression glass. I think this lot was mainly uranium (pricey).

This little iron did tempt me. So sweet.

Cute!

Nice legs!

Hmm. Dad used to use those Castrol drums as rubbish bins in his shed!

Where do you start?

A little bit of vintage fashion.

Do you think this would look good in the extension? Hee Hee

One of my Nanas had one of these high chairs. Brings back memories.

Little Miss Cutie (or is that Scary - I'm not sure) and Big Ears Frank.

Mr M and I had a chuckle at this sign at another antique shop across the road.

Hope you are having a fantastic day!
Sherry
