Copper Coast Junk

Last week Mr M had the week off before starting his new job today. Very proud of him for getting this new job which required an interview and an online exam. We decided to get away for four nights to the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. First two nights just us and then two with my Mum and sister. That way Mr M could go fishing without feeling guilty to leaving me with the kids. As it turned out the weather was shocking (sunny this week of course) so not much beach action or fishing for that matter. Master M only got two hours of digging in the sand and throwing rocks in the water the whole four days we were there.

The weather meant though that I got lots of oppies in because there was not a lot else to do. Here is a small selection of what I picked up. Will show you the rest later.

My favourite first. I saw this on the shelf in the Red Cross at Moonta and thought the tag said $18. Well I think I must have imagined it said $18 because it didn't, it said.....wait for it.....$4!! Woo hoo!! I have sold quite a few plain enamel tea pots (older than this one) and wondered if I should have (as you do) so this one is a keeper. Love, love it!!

It was 4:00pm and we pulled up to an oppie just as they were closing up. Luckily they were nice enough to let us have a look around. I saw this Crown casserole dish without a price on it and was told I could have it for $2.50. Once I got in the car I saw the tag - honest I didn't see it before - it was $5. Didn't feel so bad once I peeled off the sticker and noticed it was covering a chip in the paint!! I also bought some other stuff so it was worth their while to stay open for a few more minutes...umm...make that 15!!

Well I have to thank Mr M for this one because I didn't spot it, he did. I hadn't noticed it up on the top shelf for 50c!!! I am thinking Nally Ware?? Needs a little clean.

This was bought at a junk shop in Minlaton for $2. I have a beige one that was my Nana's so I guess that's why I bought this one??? Can't think of why else I did. Hee hee.

This fibre glass tray I picked up at Kadina ($2). Pretty funky don't you think?? I also picked up a rectangle one at the same time that I will show you later.

A bit beat up but can salt and pepper shakers be 'chippy'?  Maybe that will save them? They have character...what can I say.

Another colour to add to my salad server collection. Theses must have been very popular, they seem to pop up everywhere. 50 cents.

$2 for the Aussie made Agee Pyrex pie dish. So bright and happy!

My Oppie Map - Yorke Peninsula South Australia. Minlaton was quite a long way. Love Yorks.

Have a great week!

Ok, so I am being lazy today...

I wanted to do another vintage post (not personal), however when it gets dark at 5:30pm and the kids don't go to bed at seven I seem to run out of time to photograph. So I thought I would show you some of my past finds/sales. I am itching to get to some my garage sales and oppies but it just ain't happening at the moment. I always find that when I look through old pics that I think 'oh, why didn't I keep this' or 'why didn't I keep that'. Sigh...

Some my garage  sale loot from a year or so ago (actually maybe 3 years). Ugly jug and bowl at the front don't you think?  Someone liked it though as I no longer have it. I really have to get back into selling again. I used to really enjoy it but I think I am just over it right now, maybe too much else going on. I will have to get back into it though or I won't be able to justify my thrifting!! Now that wouldn't be good at all!

Some more. Hmm. I think I have those retro pins (badges) around somewhere. I wonder where though...
Mr M made me put that footy head thing in the picture. Lol.

Little cutie retro elephant.

Really like this anodised kettle, should have kept it, but then again, would I REALLY use it??

Hubby found this old ice cream tin.

Meet Molly. Molly loves to scare the crackers out of me when standing in the passage way and Ive forgotten I put her there. She is also is fond of scaring visitors. She has an unfortunate booby but I still think she is great. My Nana had one of these and it used to creep me out (the dummy, not the booby). She put a hat on it because she thought that would make all the difference - I thought it was even creepier then. Nana FAIL!

Not sure about this one but I guess it is pretty, just a bit old lady-ish.

Have a great weekend!!

Pics from the Wharf Markets, Pt Adelaide.

On Mothers Day we were having an afternoon tea at my SIL's house, so we left home a little early and visited the Port Markets on the way. Not much else to do on a Sunday.

I always ask the owners of stores if it is ok to photograph. Some of them look at me like I am crazy but others seem to understand - lol. Here are some pics for you.

As I have mentioned in the past, I have a thing for these old electric kettles. I really love the blue jug that is third in from the left. It has great curves and the colour is gorgeous. However being a bargain hunter there is no way I could bring myself to pay the $50 it has marked on it. Will have put it on my 'To Find' list.

Pretty Meakin set for four. Did I just say that? Hmm. I am getting old.

A retro budget box. Love this, check out the cute pics. Was marked $38 (too much for me). Wouldn't it be nice if we could pay our electricity bill in coins these days!

These look familiar, and again only four in this set. Maybe I was wrong when I thought I was missing one. I much prefer the blue and white (in other words - mine are sooo much better - lol).

The top part of this Edwardian high chair is adorable but the gears around the legs are a bit creepy and make it look like a piece of equipment that could be used in a torture chamber. It had an eerie feeling to it sitting there by itself. Sometimes antiques give off these kind of vibes don't you think? Times like this  I am glad that I live in this day and age where my best friend at meal times is a white IKEA Antiploe plastic fantastic high chair that I can hose down if need be.

The gentleman at one stall wanted me to know all about this book. Printed in the 1930's it certainly not up to todays strict standards for our precious children's eyes. Perhaps we are overly cautious these days about what our children read or see on TV but now I can see how have become this way. Umm, Jack hung the Giants with a noose around the neck and illustrations included!! Night terrors anyone? Thank goodness they decided to only show the giants from behind!

Sigh. Can really see why some people love old type writers. So much character...

More canisters. Love the set with the green lids and I am pretty sure my Nana had some similar to the red and cream ones.

Miss Piggy would love this 'Kermit the Frog green' kettle.

Not usually such a fan of amber Depression glass but quite like it frosted. An elegant pair.

Had a great time but it was reaffirmed that children and vintage don't mix - even on Mother's Day!

Time to do some selling...

I love this Depression Glass vase (with frog), it's my favourite. The gravy boat I picked up a few weeks back and I am still trying to find out who the maker is (may be a keeper). I am wondering if it is SylvaC but I am not an expert so with have to check with someone who is. The roses are from our garden which is a bit exciting as in the 10 years we have lived here we have never grown flowers (apart from Agapanthus- but they don't count). I only picked two because I couldn't bring myself to pick any more.

I am going to try and sell some of the things that are clogging up the cupboards in our shed and put the money towards a new lens for my camera.  I used to sell things regularly, but it I don't seem to get the time these days and don't seem to have as much motivation as I used to. This could be due to the fact I have a 9 month old that likes to party at night. I will be starting with the two items below. An Australian Pottery Raynham lustre vase and the enamel 'tea kettle' that still has it's original instructions and looks like is hasn't been used. I will let you know how I go.

Oh dear! A bit crooked, but hey it's only eBay.
